Fashionista

Shopping for luxury goods has never been easier. Fashionista aims to prevent luxury goods from getting overvalued and to promote other brands that make good quality products at a reasonable price.

The Fashionista app lets people understand the cost of luxury goods. It also saves money for people who value functionality, durability, and high-quality products more than brand names.

Problem Statement

How might we create an app that helps users spend less money and time and find information about product manufacturing processes in the fashion industry?

How Fashionista works

Find the best luxury goods deal

Have a talk with a brand person

Help the user find the highest quality for their given price

Promote new-generation designer’s product

Research Findings - Google Forms

I conducted 4 user interviews with the potential users, including different job positions like designer, teacher, and auditor who like to purchase luxury goods. I also created a survey for the potential users, with 40 participants.

Would you prefer to buy a cheaper brand product if the quality is equally as good as the luxury product?

93%

What are the attributes you are looking for when buying luxury products?

What would you like to know more about the luxury product before you purchase?

Persona Development

Through my research, I created two primary personas for the potential users, one of them is a fashion blogger and the other is a fashion brand public relations. I mapped out the characteristics I found by user survey and user interview participants.

Pain Points

  • Most luxury goods are expensive that
    customers can not afford them.

  • Frustrating to choose from the right
    and suitable brands.

  • They can’t comprehend the
    transparent background of the luxury
    goods.

Takeaways from user survey and interviews

Gain Points

  • They hope to get high-quality products
    within reasonable prices.

  • Frustrating to choose from the right
    and suitable brands.

  • Understanding the whole manufacturing process.

  • They hope their expenses of luxury
pieces are worth it, such as design,
    quality, brand, and materials.

Usability Issues

  1. Some users do not know the specific product name, which causes a search problem. Therefore, they prefer an image search function.

  2. The section of popular searches was confusing users who did not know what they could click on different categories because of too many texts putting together.

  3. The position of the search icon was not convenient for users who often use the app with one hand.

What I Learned

  • I learned not all the participants are related to this project theme, so in the future, I would like to interview more related users who are luxury brand staff and some of my networks who usually shop at this kind of store.

  • I want to build my knowledge of material and machinery because I can educate users to understand the lack of transparency in the fashion industry.

Further Development

  • Explore more about after-sales service, so that Fashionista can understand the user's post-purchase opinion from their feedback.

  • Create another task flow, such as tracking shopping cart items. This would help users notice when their shopping lists are going down or up in price.

  • Try to interview some manufacturers and merchandisers to see how open they are to share what happens in the manufacturing process to customers.
